So basically this is just a entry to rant about something that was SO.UNBELIVABLY.STUPID. that I still can't wrap my head around the fact that it actually happened.
So at the beginning of the month, we were supposed to go down to Athens to keep an eye on picket lines because there was supposed to be a workers strike. 12 hour shifts. 2 weeks straight. AMAZING hours. I was actually kind of excited to work it because it was a major change in routine from what we usually do.
My shift was from 7am-7pm, so our call time was 5am so we could all get to the arena and get down to Athens by post time. Fine. I mean, it's early, but it happens. We've had rediculous call times before, so this wasn't a huge shock. And it wasn't like it was only staff this time; two of the guys in the office (Dan and Jaime) were coming with us too. So we were all dragged out of bed at 3am for this.
Well, I guess the first day they didn't know if they were actually going to strike or not until like 5:30pm that night. When Dan was first told about this, he was also told to cancel the first shift (my shift) because they obviously didn't need us yet. Fine. Just to make sure, Dan emailed our contact again a few days we were supposed to start, only this time he was told, "No, go ahead and bring them down, there's always something going on down here for them to keep an eye on." Cool. So he told us our shift was back on.
So, the Monday this was all supposed to start, 8 of us get there at 5am, load up in the van, and head down to Athens. When we get there, Dan calls our contact and he doesn't pick up. So he leaves a message and we wait around for him to call us back. Dan said we'll give him till 7:15 before we just leave.
About 5 minutes later, the guy calls Dan back asking what we're doing in Athens, he told Dan he didn't need this shift. What? So Dan read him the email he received stating that yes, we will need this shift, go ahead and bring them.
The guys response? "That was a typo. You should have known that." Uh.....how the hell is that a typo? A typo is typing teh instead of the, not "Yes bring them" instead of "No, don't bring them." That's one HELL of a typo sir! So Dan's like, "Well thats FINE we'll go home, but we still have to charge you for 4 hours for dragging everyone down here." The guy goes BALISTIC, saying its pretty much all Dan's fault that we're down there when he doesn't need us and Dan must be stupid to think they WOULD need us when they didn't even know if they were striking yet.
Basically, Dan faught with this guy the ENTIRE ride back to the arena over charging him for 4 hours. I guess in the end, Seth told Dan to just let the company eat the cost of paying us because they didn't want to lose contracts with Ohio University since we do help them out with a lot of different things. I, personally, don't think that's fair. The guy is basically getting away with being a moron and not knowing what he sent, but it's not my place to comment on it.
Except on here. Heh.
They didn't actually end up striking. I don't think. There's a possibility Dan just pulled us out of it because this guy was an idiot.
