So, on Friday, John Mayer was in town. This post is barely about him at all. Except to say that I LOVE HIM! No lie. He's amazingly nice. And nowhere near as douchtastic as everyone thinks he is. And his crew is kinda amazing too.
I mean, it's just the little things that they did. Asking if I'm okay, do I need water, do I want a cookie....the fact that I probably DON'T want to sit by trashcans all day. Let me explain that: I was working West End, which is basically the entrance to what we call the "Star Tunnel," which is where the dressing rooms, production offices, and hockey locker rooms are (remember that, it's important in a minute) and no one is allowed back there without a pass that allows access to the dressing rooms. So I was making sure that everyone that went back there had a pass. I got there at 10am when they were still setting up the stage and backstage was still messed up. Now usually, when the crew is finishing up setting up the stage, the put stuff wherever is most convienent for them and basically ignore security. The guy that was helping with the stage moved the trash cans out of the way and put them right next to me. I wasn't going to say anything because hey, it's their show, but he looked at me and then was like, "Yeah, you probably don't want to sit next to those all day" and MOVED them. Seriously. Nothing like that ever happens with the big production shows.
Which this show really wasn't. It was a concert that happened to be in a big arena simply because it's John Mayer. There was barely any big lighting setups, no pyro.....nothing that usually goes along with shows at Nationwide. And he travels with 2 trucks. In contrast, Miley Cyrus travels with 17. Just saying.
There was one AMAZING BITCH on his crew though. I thought she was the tour manager, but she wasn't: she was with LiveNation. Boo evil, and this lady just solidifies that fact. Now, when we were given the sheet for the show, it said that John was coming on site at 2:30, so we had someone coming in for dressing rooms at 2. Usually that's no big deal. Well, John showed up at 1:30 and no one was back on dressing rooms yet. No one cared but this girl. and BOY did she care.
Now, Nationwide is not REALLY a concert arena: it's a hockey arena that has concerts sometimes. The hockey team was there because they had a game Thursday, the high school tornaments were starting Saturday, Bluejackets had a game Saturday....etc. I mean, yeah, they were around. As were the visiting team. They were both in the arena that afternoon practicing and since it's really THEIR arena, we can't tell them where to go or what to do. Of course they were going in and out of Star Tunnel. That's where their locker rooms are.
Well heaven forbid, they were glancing at where the dressing rooms are. Not going into them, just glancing over. Well LiveNation Whore thought that they were "showing too much interest" in the dressing rooms and started yelling at Dan, the main security guy, about how no ones on dressing rooms yet. Dan told her we had someone coming in in like 20 mins and if she needed someone down there, he'll go hang out down there until the next person shows up. She just kept bitching. So she comes up to me and was like "YOU ARE GOING ON DRESSING ROOMS!" grabbed my chair, and dragged it back to the dressing rooms and was like "SIT!" and smirked at Dan saying, "There. FIXED."
Whatever, bitch, you're the ONLY one that cared. Yeah, it's JM and he's a pretty big star, but honestly? Calm the fuck down.
Oh and then she yelled at JM's CREW for playing batmitten backstage after they were done before doors opened.
Really, sit the fuck down lady. You're there for ticketing issues since you guys decided to make it a paperless ticket tour. Let the tour manager deal with this shit.
OI!!
